Our senior team just missed out on defending the cup they won last year as they lost 2-1 to Regeneration FC in the semifinal. Both teams had met in the final last year when Jets FC won on penalties after the match finished 2-2. However, in a very exciting and competitive semifinal, Regeneration FC just edged it as Jets FC paid for not being able to finish the numerous chances that came their way.
The match was played at a very high tempo and it was Jets who had the best of the chances in a first half that ended goal-less. As early as the first minute Jets found themselves with two consecutive chances which the forwards were unable to put away.
It was Jets that opened the scoring in the 58th minute when Connor Baker’s angled shot sneaked inside the near post. Regeneration then began to control the match in an attempt to equalise. Eventually, in the 70th minute their goal came in a very unfortunate chance. After making a couple of good saves, the Jets goalkeeper unfortunately fumbled a soft shot from a Regen forward and the ball sneaked past the goal line. The last twenty minutes of the match saw further chances for both teams and it was Regen who managed to score the decisive goal in the 85th minute when a long throw caught the Jets defence not concentrating and the Regen striker shot past the keeper.
